38th National Games: Dhami inaugurates National Mallakhamb Competition 

RUDRAPUR: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh inaugurated the National Mallakhamb competition at Van Chetna Kendra, Sports Stadium, Chakarpur, Khatima, during the ongoing 38th National Games on Tuesday. On this occasion, the CM announced plans to build a boxing hostel in Chakarpur Stadium.

Welcoming all the participants and sports lovers from across the country at the launch of the Mallakhamb competition under the 38th National Games, the CM expressed happiness to be part of the event organized in the newly constructed stadium of Chakarpur.

He said that with the aim of establishing Uttarakhand as a sports ground at the national level, this grand event of the National Games is being organized in our state. ‘This event is not only giving our players an opportunity to showcase their talent, but also strengthening the state’s sports infrastructure’, he added. In this sequence, this stadium of Chakarpur has been equipped with world-class sports facilities at a cost of more than Rs 16 crore, which would help youth to excel in various sports, he emphasised. 

The CM mentioned that In this year’s National Games, the players of Uttarakhand have so far won 81 medals, including 19 gold medals. On this occasion he felicitated gold medallist in boxing Kapil Pokhraria, bronze medallist in Weightlifting Vivek Pandey and silver medallists Aman and Ajay Bisht football, as well as Aman Joshi in beach handball.

The Chief Minister stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today the traditional sports of India are not only being seen with respect, but also getting global recognition. The Central Government’s proposal for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games includes efforts to include our traditional sports like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Yoga etc in the Olympics. For the first time, our traditional sports like Yoga and Mallakhamb have also been included in the 38th National Games being held in Uttarakhand.

On this occasion, Mayor Rudrapur Vikas Sharma, Chairman Municipal Council Khatima Ramesh Chandra Joshi, District President Kamal Jindal, District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadoria, Senior Superintendent of Police Manikant Mishra, Additional District Magistrate Pankaj Upadhyay, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Uttam Singh Negi, Secretary State Olympic Association Dr. DK Singh, District Sports Officer Janaki Karki and many players and sports lovers were present.
