Dehradun: In line with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision for swift disaster response, District Magistrate Savin Bansal on Wednesday conducted a surprise inspection of the Integrated Disaster Control Center in Dehradun. He emphasized that, as the state capital, Dehradun must have a disaster response and resource management system of “A-class” standards.

Rapid Digital Transformation Underway

The DM informed that the Disaster Control Room is undergoing rapid modernization and will soon operate on a fully digital platform. GIS maps of tehsils, police stations, major roads, hospitals, and essential services will be installed and operated by a dedicated GIS team. Additionally, a real-time display screen and a high-speed wireless communication network are being established for the first time in the district.

Key Directives and Enhancements:

Mandatory Same-Day Resolution:
All disaster-related complaints must be resolved on the same day. Junior Engineers from PWD, NH, Jal Sansthan, UPCL, and the Drinking Water Department will remain present in the control room in two shifts daily to ensure immediate action.

Progress Update:
Out of 125 complaints received so far (including water supply issues, road blockages, and landslides), 122 have already been resolved.

Pre-positioning of JCBs:
In landslide-prone areas like Mussoorie, Chakrata, Tyuni, Raipur, and Doiwala, JCB machines will be pre-deployed. Departments like PWD, NH, and PMGSY have been directed to monitor these locations closely. Contact details of JCB drivers and site engineers will be displayed in the control room.

Other Notable Upgrades:

Deployment of Police on Wireless Communication:
Wireless sets will be installed and used effectively by police personnel during disasters.

Clear Display of Contact Information:
All important landline and mobile numbers of departments will be prominently pasted on the control room walls.

Outdated Equipment to be Decommissioned:
Faulty or outdated equipment will be declared unfit for use and replaced.

Recruitment Drive:
All vacant positions in disaster management departments will be filled promptly to ensure operational efficiency.

Emergency Sirens at Key Locations:
For the first time in the state, high-quality emergency sirens will be installed at all police stations and tehsils within the district. The plan is in its final phase of execution.

A Model for Other Districts

DM Bansal reiterated that Dehradun, being the capital and a disaster-sensitive zone, must set an example in preparedness and responsiveness. The ongoing transformation of the Disaster Control Room is aimed at making it a model for the entire state.
