Prime Minister Modi Reviews Flood Situation in Uttarakhand , Announces ₹1200 Crore Financial Assistance
DEHRADUN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dehradun on Thursday to review the flood situation in Uttarakhand caused by cloudbursts, heavy rainfall, and landslides. He assessed the damages and chaired a high-level review meeting on relief and rehabilitation measures.
The Prime Minister announced a financial package of ₹1200 crore for relief, restoration, and reconstruction works in the affected regions of the state. He stressed the need for a multi-dimensional approach to support people and rebuild infrastructure.
The assistance will include:
👉🏻 Reconstruction of houses under a “Special Project” of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) for families whose homes were destroyed by the floods.
👉🏻 Restoration of national highways, bridges, and damaged roads.
👉🏻 Reconstruction of schools and public infrastructure.
👉🏻 Relief measures through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
👉🏻 Distribution of mini-kits for livestock and agricultural support to farmers.
The Centre has already dispatched inter-ministerial central teams to conduct on-ground assessments of damages. Their reports will guide further financial and technical support from the Union government.
Expressing his condolences, Prime Minister Modi said that the Government of India stands firmly with the people of Uttarakhand during this difficult time. He met families affected by floods and landslides and extended his solidarity, offering heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones.
He also announced ex-gratia assistance of ₹2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 each for those seriously injured in the calamity.
The Prime Minister further declared that children orphaned due to the recent floods and landslides will be supported under the PM CARES for Children scheme, ensuring their long-term welfare, education, and well-being.
Acknowledging the severity of the disaster, PM Modi emphasized that the financial aid announced is an interim relief under the Disaster Management Act and relevant rules. Additional support will be considered after evaluation of state government’s memorandum and central assessment reports.
The Prime Minister praised the tireless efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, Army, state administration, and ‘Disaster Mitra’ volunteers, who have been working relentlessly in relief and rescue operations. He assured that the Union Government will extend full support for the restoration of essential services and rebuilding of affected areas.
