New Delhi: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed the expansion and modernization of railway infrastructure in Uttarakhand.

Sharing details of the meeting on his social media account, the Chief Minister informed that he requested the Union Minister to develop Dehradun and Haridwar railway stations as model stations by undertaking their comprehensive expansion and strengthening. He also urged that the entire expenditure of the Haridwar–Dehradun railway line doubling project be borne by the Central Government.

In a positive development, the Union Minister approved the proposal to increase the frequency of the Dehradun–Tanakpur weekly train to three days a week, which will provide greater convenience to passengers traveling across the state.

Chief Minister Dhami further discussed the Tanakpur–Bageshwar railway project, suggesting that the alignment be planned in such a way that it connects Almora and Someshwar regions, thereby improving connectivity across the Kumaon division. He also proposed the inclusion of a road provision alongside tunnels to enhance accessibility.

Additionally, the Chief Minister requested that the old railway station land in Rishikesh, which has been rendered non-operational after the commissioning of the new station, be completely transferred to the state government for developmental use.
