Dehradun: A Sarvadharma seminar aimed at promoting national unity and interfaith harmony was organized today at the Raj Bhavan. The event witnessed the participation of Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd.), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and representatives from various religions, all reaffirming their commitment to the unity and integrity of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Gurmeet Singh stated that the seminar represents a collective responsibility towards the nation. “Today, we stand united beyond the boundaries of religion, caste, or ideology, much like our soldiers who guard the nation’s borders. The strength of a soldier lies in family, nation, and morale — and this seminar is a tribute to that spirit,” he said.
Highlighting the universal message of all religions, the Governor emphasized that they all advocate peace, compassion, and unity. “Hinduism prays for the welfare of all (Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah), Sikhism preaches unity (Ekam), Buddhism encourages self-reliance (Be your own lamp), Jainism upholds non-violence, Islam advocates against division, and Christianity teaches peace,” he said.
He also praised the armed forces for their relentless efforts in fighting terrorism under operations like Operation Sindoor. He commended Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh for their pivotal roles, describing them as symbols of the strength and determination of Indian women.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in his address, said that during times of national crisis, people from all religions and communities have come together to uphold the values of unity and brotherhood. “History shows that India has always responded to challenges with unity, transcending barriers of caste, creed, language, and region. The Vedic mantra ‘Sangachchh Dhvam Samvadad Dhvam’ teaches us to walk together with one purpose and one mind,” he said.
He cited religious and historical figures such as Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Guru Gobind Singh, Jesus Christ, and Prophet Muhammad, stating that they all stood for truth, righteousness, and harmony. “When Adharma rises, silence amounts to complicity. India has always stood firmly for justice and dharma,” the Chief Minister added.
Dhami also lauded the patriotic spirit of Uttarakhand, calling it a land of sacrifice and valor. “Our soldiers have always brought glory to the nation. We must continue to support them with pride and unity,” he said.
Swami Chidanand Muni of Parmarth Niketan remarked that while our modes of worship may differ, our ultimate devotion lies in patriotism. Uttarakhand Waqf Board President Shadab Shams echoed the sentiment, saying, “There is no nation more beautiful than India, and we are all children of Mother India.”
The seminar also saw reflections from Buddhist leader Sonam Chogyal, Brother Joseph M. Joseph, and Sardar Gurbaksh Singh Rajan, who collectively emphasized the importance of preserving India’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty.
Among those present at the event were Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman, Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari, along with religious leaders, social workers, and followers from various faiths.
