Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami promotes ‘Vocal for Local’ by shopping for Diwali from local shops on Chakrata Road
CM Dhami: “Encouraging local artisans is the true spirit of Diwali — embrace Swadeshi, build an Atmanirbhar Bharat”

Dehradun — Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday visited local shops on Chakrata Road in Dehradun and purchased traditional Diwali items such as earthen lamps, utensils, and other indigenous products. The Chief Minister’s gesture sent a strong message of promoting Swadeshi products and supporting local artisans and small traders.

During his visit, CM Dhami interacted with potters, shopkeepers, and handicraft artisans, appreciating their craftsmanship and encouraging them to carry forward the state’s traditional art forms. He also made his purchases through digital payments (UPI), urging citizens to adopt digital transactions and support local businesses through the festive season.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said:

“Diwali is a festival of light, prosperity, and positivity. On this auspicious occasion, we must support our country’s artisans and local entrepreneurs. Buying Swadeshi products not only keeps our traditions alive but also strengthens the vision of ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.”

CM Dhami further noted that the enthusiasm for local and indigenous products has significantly increased this year. Several shopkeepers shared that due to lower GST rates, prices have reduced and sales have seen a considerable rise compared to previous years. Expressing satisfaction, the Chief Minister said this positive change reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “Swadeshi Apnao” and “Vocal for Local,” which has encouraged people to prefer local markets and homegrown products over imported goods.

He appealed to the people of Uttarakhand to light their homes this Diwali with traditional earthen lamps and make Indian culture and craftsmanship an integral part of their celebrations.

The Chief Minister’s initiative brought a wave of enthusiasm among local traders, potters, and shopkeepers, who expressed gratitude for the government’s continuous efforts to promote small businesses and indigenous industries.
