DEHRADUN: 14 Differently-Abled Orphan Girls Rehabilitated After DM’s Intervention

Dehradun: In a decisive move, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal ensured the safe rehabilitation of 14 orphaned, differently-abled girls after several child care institutions refused to accept them. The girls were previously residing at the Satya Sai Ashram, which is shutting down due to financial and operational challenges.

According to DM Bansal, despite receiving funding for the welfare of such children, multiple organisations declined to provide shelter, neglecting their responsibilities towards vulnerable sections. This prompted the district administration to launch a high-level inquiry into the matter and intervene directly.

“Institution after institution turned them away. Most of these centres are funded to support such children, yet they refused help. We had to act,” said Bansal.

Following an intensive search by the district team, the girls have now been successfully relocated to Rafael Home, where they will receive food, education, healthcare, and a nurturing environment for overall development.

The district magistrate emphasized that the registration of organisations working with children must carry accountability along with funding. “Children cannot be exploited under the guise of service. Violations will invite strict action,” he warned.

A dedicated team has now been deployed to monitor compliance and ensure that the rights and wellbeing of the children are fully protected. The administration has also issued a strong message to all such institutions, stating that non-compliance with child welfare regulations will result in penalties, including cancellation of registration.

“This is not a matter of formality,” Bansal added. “The welfare and dignity of our children is non-negotiable.”
