Dehradun District Administration on Alert After Bird Flu Confirmed in Uttar Pradesh

Dehradun — Following confirmed cases of bird flu in Uttar Pradesh, the Dehradun district administration has stepped up vigilance. District Magistrate Savin Bansal chaired a meeting on 14 August at Rishiparna Auditorium with all concerned departments, issuing strict instructions for preventive and coordinated action. Avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, is a highly contagious viral disease that mainly affects birds but can, in rare cases, spread to humans.

The DM directed the Animal Husbandry Department to collect random samples from all 170 poultry farms in the district within three days for testing. He also ordered regular monitoring of poultry farms and activation of Rapid Response Teams. The Forest Department was instructed to keep a close watch on birds around ponds, lakes, and rivers, and to immediately report any cases of dead or sick birds to the veterinary department.

Although no cases of bird flu have been detected in the district so far, check posts have been set up at entry points along the UP border. The entry of live chickens, chicken meat, and eggs from outside the district has been banned until further orders. Unauthorized meat shops are to be sealed immediately.

The DM also directed all SDMs, veterinary officers, and municipal bodies to hold meetings with poultry farm owners and chicken meat traders in their respective areas to raise awareness. The District Sainik Welfare Officer was instructed to alert Army and paramilitary headquarters in the district.

The meeting was attended by Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, SDM Kumkum Joshi, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Santosh Kumar Pandey, CMO Dr. Mukesh Kumar Sharma, CVO Dr. S.C. Joshi, and officials from all concerned departments.
