Massive Plantation Drive at All Polling Booths from June 5 Plantation Drive to Promote Environment & Voter Awareness
Dehradun: Starting from International Environment Day on June 5, the District Election Office will launch a large-scale plantation campaign across all 1,882 polling booths in the district. The campaign will continue till the end of the Harela festival in July. This initiative aims to raise awareness about environmental protection along with promoting active participation in the electoral process.
Under the directions of District Election Officer (DEO) Savin Bansal, preparations are underway to execute the drive in mission mode. As per the plan, each polling booth will see the plantation of at least 10 saplings. A detailed blueprint of the program has been sought from all SDMs, Electoral Registration Officers, Department Heads, and Office Heads.
To ensure community involvement, the DEO has instructed that every plantation event at polling booths must include a diverse representation:
30% new voters
30% elderly citizens
30% women
10% other voters from the booth area
Government departments including Forest, Horticulture, Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Education, and Urban Development have been directed to actively participate. Local NGOs working in the respective areas will also be involved.
Monitoring and care of the saplings will be overseen by the Principal of the concerned school and the Booth Level Officer (BLO). The DEO emphasized that complete post-plantation care must be ensured for the sustainability of the campaign.
This special initiative is being carried out on the instructions of the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttarakhand, with the dual objective of promoting ecological responsibility and democratic engagement.
