SSP Directed to Seize Weapon and Initiate Legal Action
Dehradun, July 17: In a decisive and swift action, District Magistrate Savin Bansal has suspended the arms license of an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) inspector following serious allegations of misuse of his licensed firearm in domestic disputes. The DM invoked his special powers under the Arms Act after receiving a public complaint during the Janta Darshan programme.
The complaint was filed by Race Course resident Vikas Ghildiyal, who alleged that his father—an ITBP inspector—regularly misuses his licensed weapon to threaten him and his divorced mother during family disagreements. Vikas expressed concern that such behavior could lead to a serious incident at any time.
Taking cognizance of the gravity of the matter, DM Bansal immediately ordered the suspension of the arms license and directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to seize the weapon without delay and initiate appropriate legal proceedings.
“An arms license is not a permit to act above the law. It is the administration’s duty to act firmly against those who misuse such privileges,” said DM Savin Bansal.
The prompt action has brought a sense of relief to the complainant and his mother, while also sending a strong message that any form of intimidation or misuse of licensed arms will invite strict legal consequences.
