Four-days millet festival (Shri Anna Mahotsav) begins in Dehradun today from 13th May – 16th May to create awareness in people about the health benefits of millets and to deliberate on the state’s potential to grow crops in this category. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar, agriculture ministers of other states, scientists and farmers will participate in Shri Anna Mahotsav.

Ganesh Joshi, agriculture minister, Uttarakhand informed that there will be a discussion on the produce of millets in the festival. He said that the farmers of the state will be encouraged to cultivate millet through this festival. Minister said that the State government has made an arrangement of Rs.73 crore in this financial year for the promotion of millets. He added that the aim of the government is that the farmers produce more and more coarse grains so that their economy can be strengthened.

The Four-days deliberations are aimed to attract more and more people towards millet production, which is to be doubled by 2025.

In this Mahotsav 134 stalls will be put up by the Agriculture Department, Agriculture Research Institutions and by Agriculture Universities.
