The process of withdrawing Rs 2000 notes will start from tomorrow, Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Customers can deposit any amount in their bank accounts in Rs 2000 notes. In case of no bank account, 10 notes of Rs 2000 can be exchanged at a time. No ID proof or form filling process will be required to exchange Rs 2,000 notes up to the sum of Rs 20,000.
Till 30 September, 2023, Rs 2000 notes can be deposited/changed in the bank account. Rs 2000 notes can be exchanged from any branch of the bank. Register your complaint on RBI’s portal cms.rbi.org.in on refusal to deposit/exchange Rs 2000 notes by the bank.
On Friday, May 19, 2023, the Reserve Bank of India decided to withdraw Rs 2000 notes. It has been decided by the Reserve Bank that from 23 May, Tuesday, i.e. from tomorrow till 30 September 2023, public can either deposit Rs 2000 note in their bank account or get it changed by going to the any branch of bank. The validity of the 2000 note will remain intact. Means no one can deny its transaction.
Customers can deposit any amount of Rs 2000 notes in their bank account. But in the absence of an account, only 10 notes of Rs 2000 can be exchanged at a time. No ID proof or form filling process will be required to exchange Rs 2,000 notes up to Rs 20,000. But for amounts above this value, KYC norms and other applicable statutory requirements will have to be met.
On 19 May the RBI urged the banks that notes of other denominations in circulation were available in sufficient numbers. Therefore, banks should not give Rs 2000 notes to the customers.
