Independence Day to be Celebrated with Grandeur in Dehradun; Parade Ground to Host Main Ceremony

Dehradun — Preparations are in full swing to celebrate Independence Day on August 15 with grandeur and patriotic fervor in the state capital, Dehradun. A key planning meeting was held on Tuesday at the Rishiparna Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, where the event outline was finalized and responsibilities assigned.

Main Event at Parade Ground

The central celebration will take place at the Parade Ground, where Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will hoist the national flag at 10 AM. Prior to this, flag hoisting ceremonies will be conducted in all government offices at 9 AM.

The event will feature an impressive parade by contingents from the police, paramilitary forces, home guards, NCC cadets, and provincial guards. The Chief Minister will receive the guard of honour and deliver an address. On this occasion, freedom fighters, state movement participants, distinguished athletes, and police personnel with exemplary service records will be felicitated.

To ensure widespread participation, the ceremony will also be telecast live.

Cultural Celebrations on the Eve

District Magistrate Bansal has instructed that patriotic songs be played at key intersections across the city from the evening of August 14, and government buildings be decorated with LED lighting to create a festive and patriotic atmosphere.

Activities in Educational Institutions

Schools will begin Independence Day with a Prabhat Pheri (morning march) at 7 AM. This will be followed by seminars, essay competitions, sports events, and cultural performances, engaging students in the spirit of the occasion.

Focus on Plantation and Cleanliness

A large-scale plantation drive will be conducted across the district under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. The Municipal Corporation has been directed to ensure thorough cleaning and beautification of parks, intersections, and monuments. Use of plastic will be strictly prohibited.

Tight Arrangements and Coordination

The police department has been tasked with managing security and ensuring smooth conduct of the parade and salute program. Line departments have been instructed to complete all necessary preparations on time. Invitation letters will be issued promptly to special guests and dignitaries.

Senior Officials Present

The meeting saw the participation of several senior officers, including Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, ADM (Administration) Jai Bharat, ADM (Finance & Revenue) KK Mishra, SDMs Harigir and Aparna, City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Santosh Kumar Pandey, Chief Education Officer VK Dhoundiyal, and other departmental heads.
