Chief Minister Presents Suggestions Regarding Banking Access in Rural Uttarakhand
DEHRADUN: On Monday, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Sanjay Malhotra, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Chief Minister’s residence in Dehradun. The meeting focused on various aspects related to the state’s economic landscape, financial inclusion, and strengthening of banking services in Uttarakhand.
Chief Minister Dhami warmly welcomed the RBI Governor to Uttarakhand and said that the meeting with the head of the country’s apex financial institution is a significant opportunity for the state’s economic development. He stated that the state government is working with a focus on financial discipline, transparency, and digitalization to establish Uttarakhand as a self-reliant and developed state.
The Chief Minister requested Malhotra’s support in expanding banking services in the hilly and rural regions of Uttarakhand, promoting digital payment systems, and effectively implementing financial literacy programs. He emphasized the need to ensure accessible banking services even in areas where reach is still limited so that citizens can directly benefit from government schemes.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Digital India” campaign, the Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand has made significant progress in recent years in the fields of digital transactions, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and the availability of government services through online platforms.
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra appreciated the efforts of the Uttarakhand government in promoting financial discipline, transparency, and good governance. He stated that the Reserve Bank of India is committed to extending all possible support for the state’s financial development and expansion of its banking infrastructure.
He assured the Chief Minister that the RBI would promote banking and financial literacy programs in the remote regions of Uttarakhand. Additionally, he mentioned that efforts would be made to make financial assistance more accessible for the MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) sector at the local level.
