Dehradun: Shri Guru Ram Rai Inter College, Sahaspur, celebrated its 70th anniversary on Tuesday with great enthusiasm. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the grand event, honoring the institution’s legacy and its contribution to education in the region.
During the function, the Chief Minister felicitated several senior citizens and distributed school bags to students. In his address, he praised the college, founded shortly after India’s independence, for playing a pivotal role in spreading the light of education in the area.
CM Dhami lauded the 35 years of dedicated service by the college’s Principal, Dr. Ravindra Kumar Saini, stating that his students are making their mark across various fields nationwide. He also commended the institution’s initiative to promote girls’ education, especially for daughters of economically weaker families, calling it a transformative step towards societal progress.
Highlighting the importance of discipline and hard work, the Chief Minister told students that time is the most valuable resource and urged them to pursue their dreams with determination and bring glory to their school and hometown.
Addressing educational reforms, Dhami emphasized the state’s tough stance against exam malpractices, noting that no paper leak incidents have occurred in the last three years due to stringent anti-cheating laws. Over 20,000 youths have secured government jobs through a transparent recruitment process during this period, he added.
The Chief Minister reiterated that education and culture together shape individuals to serve the nation and society. He stressed the importance of character development and shared that Uttarakhand was the first state to implement the National Education Policy 2020.
Furthering educational infrastructure, Dhami highlighted the establishment of 141 PM Shri Vidyalayas and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools. Fifty virtual classrooms have been introduced across 13 districts, and NCERT books have been made mandatory in all schools.
To encourage academic excellence, the government is providing incentives of ₹600 to ₹1,200 and organizing all-India tours for meritorious students. A special education scheme has also been launched for children orphaned by disasters, epidemics, or accidents.
The CM also announced the development of 20 model colleges and nine new higher education institutions in the state. Additional facilities like women’s hostels, IT labs, and exam halls are being constructed. Highlighting sports development, he said Uttarakhand ranked seventh in the recent National Games and has launched initiatives to provide government jobs to national-level medal-winning athletes.
The event saw the presence of local MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir, Nagar Palika President Neeru Devi, Principal Dr. Ravindra Kumar Saini, Dr. D.S. Mann, Acharya Ashish Semwal, SDM Vikasnagar Vinod, and several other dignitaries.
