On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on 2 October, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju participated in the programs organized in Dehradun in the Swachh Bharat Diwas program under Swachhata Hi Seva-2024.
To begin with, the Union Minister visited Khadi Village Industry at Kishannagar Chowk as per his scheduled program, where he spun the charkha and inspected the village industry. After this, the minister reached Nashville Road to do a field inspection of the Swachhata Seva unit under Swachhata Hi Seva and honored the Swachhata Mitras and personnel by giving them certificates.
The main program was held at Gandhi Park where the Union Minister paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi by garlanding his statue. He gave the message of cleanliness to everyone by sweeping. He also planted a Rudraksha sapling in the Gandhi Park premises under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. During this, he also honored people who did excellent work in various fields.
Addressing the people, on the occasion, the Union Minister said that he feels very happy to come to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Here he gets an atmosphere like his home. The people here reflect the sense of respect and hospitality, which fulfills the spirit of Atithi Devo Bhava. Along with this, he also shared his attachment to Devbhoomi and told how he has visited remote areas here. Referring to Gunji of District Pithoragarh located in a remote area, the Union Minister said that he was told earlier by the local residents here that there is no hope of a road coming to the area. Due to which the residents of the area and tourists used to face a lot of inconvenience. Understanding their pain, since he himself comes from a hilly state like Arunachal Pradesh and he is well aware of the problems faced by women, elderly and children due to lack of roads. In such a situation, while meeting the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, he apprised him of the problems of the villagers of Gunji area. Understanding the pain of the people of the area, the Prime Minister approved the construction of the road. Because of its construction, the local people as well as tourists are getting benefitted.
In his address, the Union Minister said that it is the guidance and leadership of the Prime Minister of our country that many public welfare schemes are being run in Uttarakhand today. Which includes the reconstruction of Kedarnath, the work being done under the master plan in Badrinath Dham, the construction work of Delhi-Dehradun four lane, Kedarkhand, Manaskhand Yojana, besides approval of an amount of Rs 4 crore for development of infrastructure for adventure activities in Tehri Lake, and many such schemes are benefiting Devbhoomi.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that he felt satisfied by participating in the cleanliness program in Dehradun on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti to mark the completion of 10 years of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The theme of this year’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is “Swabhaav Swachhta aur Sanskar Swachhta”. The Union Minister said that 10 years ago, when the Prime Minister addressed the countrymen from the ramparts of Red Fort. Today, Uttarakhand is presenting an excellent example in the cleanliness campaign.
In his address, the Union Minister shared the memories of visiting places like Gunji, Harshil, Chakrata, Nabhi, Auli, Niti, Mana, Tehri etc. in Uttarakhand and said that Devbhoomi is very beautiful.
While addressing the youth, he told them to stay fit in life. He said that we started movements like Khelo India and Fit India. The only aim of these events is how we can keep ourselves fit. He asked the youth to participate in as many sports as possible. He said that sports is such a medium to stay fit in life which keeps our mind and body healthy.
On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Premchand Agarwal said that the Swachhata Abhiyan started by Prime Minister Modi 10 years ago has become a campaign for every person today. Today our state is setting new records in the field of cleanliness. He said that along with keeping the area around us clean, we should also help in keeping nature green. Local MLA Khajan Das also addressed the gathering.
On this occasion, Rajya Sabha MP and State President Mahendra Bhatt, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, Cabinet Minister Premchand Agarwal, Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Khajan Das, District Panchayat President Madhu Chauhan, Former Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, Secretary Nitesh Jha, Director Urban Development Nitin Bhadauria, District Magistrate Savin Bansal, SSP Ajay Singh, Chief Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, SDM Sadar Kumkum Joshi, District Development Officer Sushil Kumar and many others were present in the program.
