Uttarakhand Aiming to Become India’s Premier Film Destination: CM Dhami

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transforming Uttarakhand into the top film-making destination in the country. Speaking at the premiere of the Garhwali feature film “Meri Pyari Boi”, held at Silver City Mall in Dehradun on Friday, CM Dhami highlighted the strategic initiatives being undertaken to attract filmmakers and boost the local economy through cinema.

CM Dhami emphasized that the state government is implementing a well-planned strategy to promote film production in Uttarakhand. “We have introduced provisions to offer grants to films and web series released on OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sony Liv, Zee5, and Jio Cinema. This will not only support filmmakers but also promote Uttarakhand as a filming destination,” he said.

He congratulated the entire team behind “Meri Pyari Boi” for their work and success, adding that the government is determined to support every aspect of film production—from infrastructure to policy. “Film production is creating new employment opportunities and giving a fresh boost to tourism in the state,” he added.

The CM also announced that the Tourism Department has started identifying and promoting lesser-known scenic locations across the state for filming purposes. “Every possible support will be provided to filmmakers shooting in Uttarakhand. The recently implemented Film Policy-2024 has simplified the process, making Uttarakhand a filmmaker-friendly destination,” he said.

Key features of the new policy include a single-window clearance system for film shooting, and financial incentives such as:

A 30% grant on production expenditure (up to ₹3 crore) for Hindi and 8th Schedule languages.

The same grant cap for big-budget (over ₹50 crore) and foreign films.

A maximum grant of ₹2 crore for films made in regional languages of Uttarakhand.

CM Dhami stated that Uttarakhand’s breathtaking landscapes—from Adi Kailash and Chakrata to Mana—are attracting filmmakers from all over the country. “With strong public support and cooperative government departments, the filming environment here is ideal,” he said.

He also mentioned that over 200 films have been shot in Uttarakhand so far, and the momentum continues with the support of the new policy, which encourages not only mainstream Bollywood productions but also regional and dialect-based films.

Mayor of Dehradun Saurabh Thapliyal, the cast and crew of “Meri Pyari Boi”, and a large audience were present at the event.
