Uttarakhand Approves 1,790 New Nursing Seats, To Introduce Single-Window System for Applications

Empowered Committee Approves 1,790 New Nursing Seats, to Streamline Admission Process Through Single-Window System

Dehradun: A meeting of the Empowered Committee for the Administration of Nursing Courses was held at the Secretariat on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. The committee reviewed proposals related to the operation and expansion of nursing courses across the state and recommended 1,790 new seats in 39 nursing colleges.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasized the need to simplify and digitize the nursing course approval process. He directed officials to develop a single-window system for applications, eliminating the need for multiple layers of processing. “The single-window system will make the entire process — from application to government approval — faster, more transparent, and efficient,” he said, instructing that work on this initiative begin immediately.

Bardhan also instructed that a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) be prepared to define all stages of the process — from institutional application to final approval and implementation — ensuring uniformity and accountability.

Providing an overview of the state’s nursing education landscape, Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar informed the committee that as of 2024, 21,541 nurses are registered with the State Nursing Council. Additionally, 9,806 students are currently pursuing nursing education in various government and private colleges across Uttarakhand.

Secretary Dilip Jawalkar and other senior officers of the Health and Medical Education Departments were also present at the meeting.
