Governor Gurmeet Singh inspects disaster-hit areas in Dehradun, praises prompt relief work
Dehradun– Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd.) on Saturday visited various disaster-affected areas of Dehradun district to assess the damage caused by the heavy rains of September 15 and 16. He conducted an on-the-spot inspection of relief and reconstruction efforts, interacted with local residents, and held a detailed review meeting with the district administration.
The Governor first reached the Collectorate, where District Magistrate Savin Bansal briefed him on the immediate response and ongoing relief operations. The Governor was informed that as soon as the disaster struck, administrative teams rushed to the affected regions, launching search and rescue operations without delay. Bansal himself visited several affected sites to oversee restoration efforts. A detailed account of relief activities, including measures taken in remote areas, was also presented to the Governor.
Governor Singh praised the District Magistrate and the administration for their swift and effective response. He highlighted that reaching out to affected families in far-flung regions and restoring normalcy within a short span was a remarkable effort. Stressing the importance of preparedness, he remarked that natural disasters are recurring challenges, and every such experience should be taken as a lesson to improve planning and resilience. He further recommended that officers and personnel who displayed exemplary commitment during disaster management should be formally honored.
Following the review, the Governor inspected the damaged bridge at Nanda Ki Chowki. Officials informed him that an alternative route would be operational within three to four days, while complete reconstruction of the bridge would require more time. He instructed the administration to expedite efforts so that traffic movement could resume quickly, minimizing inconvenience to the public. Local residents also met the Governor and shared their concerns, to which he assured prompt redressal.
The Governor later visited the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, which had also suffered damage in the disaster. He interacted with priests and devotees to understand the ground situation and assured them of timely restoration. Expressing solidarity, he said, “This is indeed a difficult time, but with the combined efforts of the government, administration, and citizens, we will soon overcome these challenges.” During his visit, the Governor also performed Jalabhishek at the temple, praying for the happiness, prosperity, and well-being of the people of Uttarakhand.
Senior officials including District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, Additional District Magistrate Jai Bharat Singh, K.K. Mishra, SP City Pramod Kumar, and others accompanied the Governor during the inspection.
