DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 1,232 newly appointed nursing officers at Government Doon Medical College, Patel Nagar. These nursing officers will be deployed across all medical colleges in the state. On the occasion, he also inaugurated the newly constructed auditorium of Doon Medical College, built at a cost of Rs 26 crore.
Congratulating the new recruits, CM Dhami emphasized their crucial role in enhancing medical services in government institutions. He recalled the dedication of nursing staff and healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, acknowledging their selfless service in saving lives despite personal risks. He expressed confidence that the new nursing officers would serve with dedication, compassion, and professionalism, thereby elevating the state’s healthcare system.
The Chief Minister highlighted the success of the Ayushman Yojana, under which more than 11 lakh patients in the state have availed cashless treatment worth over Rs 2,100 crore. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure by setting up medical colleges in every district, ensuring modern health facilities reach even the remotest areas. Additionally, the introduction of heli ambulance services has proven to be a lifesaver for emergency cases in remote regions.
To address staff shortages in government hospitals and medical colleges, CM Dhami noted that 173 assistant professors, 56 faculty members, and 185 technicians have been recruited so far to strengthen medical education. He further stated that over 22,000 youths in the state have secured government jobs in the past three years.
Medical Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat affirmed the government’s commitment to providing affordable healthcare services at people’s doorsteps. He announced that preparations are underway to commence operations at Pithoragarh and Rudrapur Medical Colleges, which will not only produce more doctors but also create employment opportunities. Plans are in place for a structured transfer policy, timely promotions, and appointment of personnel as per medical college requirements. Additionally, the government is considering revising the honorarium for contract personnel and integrating contract-based nursing staff into permanent roles.
Medical Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar reiterated the department’s commitment to strengthening medical education alongside healthcare services. He assured that recruitment drives for doctors and support staff would continue to ensure optimal utilization of medical infrastructure.
The event was attended by MLA Khajan Das, Director of Medical Education Dr. Ashutosh Sayana, Principal of Doon Medical College Dr. Geeta Jain, and principals from other medical colleges across the state.
