UTTARAKHAND NEWS: CM Dhami inaugurates BIS Standard Fair

DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Standard Club Carnival organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in Dehradun on Tuesday, 4 February. On this occasion, he inspected various stalls and also administered the oath to buy ISI Mark products.

On this occasion, while addressing, CM Dhami stressed that the Standards Club of the Bureau of Indian Standards is working to explain the importance of quality and standardization to our students as well as develop creativity, innovation and scientific attitude in them. He stated that the economy, industrial development and place of any country in global competition depends on how reliable, durable and high quality the products and services made there are. Keeping this objective in mind, the Bureau of Indian Standards has been making its significant contribution to nation building for the last 78 years. The Bureau of Indian Standards has ensured the quality of Indian products as well as protected the interests of consumers through standardization in various fields. The standards established by the Bureau play an extremely important role towards the certification of our industries, trade and services.

He emphasised that even today when we go to buy a product, the first thing we see is whether the product has ISI mark or not. If there is ISI mark, then we are fully confident that this product will meet all the standards of quality and safety. This in itself is enough to show the credibility of the Bureau of Indian Standards and its commitment towards consumers. He said that any standards are not just technical guidelines or criteria, but they are also the foundation of the development and self-reliance of our country. These not only ensure the quality of our work, but also affect the life of every citizen of the country in some way or the other.

The CM noted that the ecosystem of standards has expanded widely in recent years, now covering almost all sectors including agriculture, road transport, health. This expansion ensures that standards of high quality, safety and efficiency are applicable in all sectors, which will improve our standard of living and also strengthen the economy. Similarly, in our state also, the Bureau of Indian Standards, in coordination with PWD, MDDA, UPCL and Disaster Management Department, is doing important work to make all of them aware and empowered towards standardization.

He stressed that the dream of ‘self-reliant India’ is being realized under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Bureau of Indian Standards has a very important role in realizing this dream. The Prime Minister’s objective is that Indian products set an example in the whole world for their quality, innovation and reliability. Because when we prepare our products in accordance with global standards, we not only take care of their quality, but also provide a strong basis to make our industries competitive in the international market. Keeping this in mind, our state government is also making continuous efforts.

The CM mentioned that today we are trying to set high standards for our traditional products, such as handicrafts, organic agricultural products, medicinal herbs and other local products so that our products can compete at the global level. Keeping this in mind, the state government has established an umbrella brand named ‘House of Himalayas’, which is proving to be an important step towards giving global recognition to our local products. He said that the Bureau of Indian Standards has established standard clubs in more than 10,000 schools across the country, through which awareness about standards is being spread among children. Also, the Bureau has signed MOUs with about 100 reputed educational institutions, including four major institutions of our Uttarakhand. BIS is now taking the importance of standards to the Gram Panchayat level.
