UTTARAKHAND NEWS: Public holiday on 23 January 

Public holiday on 23 January, all government, private institutions to remain closed.

DEHRADUN: Voting for Uttarakhand civic elections is to be held on Thursday, 23 January. On Monday, the State Election Commission held a meeting with the officials engaged in election duty and issued necessary guidelines. It has also been announced that there will be a public holiday in the municipal bodies of the state on the day of voting on 23 January.

The Uttarakhand government has also issued orders regarding the declaration of public holiday in all the municipal bodies of the state on the day of voting. According to the order issued, the Governor, exercising the powers given in Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881 (Act No. 26 of 1881), has issued an order for holiday in all government offices, educational institutions, semi-bodies and commercial establishments present in all the civil local bodies of the state, as well as approved paid public holiday on the polling day 23 January 2025 for all the employees working in them.  Along with this, the treasury and sub-treasury falling in the constituency will also remain closed on this day.

During the meeting held at the State Election Commission office, Commissioner Sushil Kumar stated that observers have an important role in this entire process. While sharing general information of local bodies to the deployed observers, he shared general information about the Model Code of Conduct, maximum expenditure limit by candidates, voting and counting of votes. Along with this, the role of observers in the entire voting process was also explained. Apart from this, the points to be kept in mind by the observers during the elections were also discussed.

Secretary, State Election Commission Rahul Kumar Goyal provided information about the number of districts and their voters including political parties, their election symbols in the briefing of general observers. He informed about the works and responsibilities related to election duty during the civic elections 2024-25. Apart from this, information was shared to the observers regarding the Model Code of Conduct during the training program.
