Following an IMD Red Alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, Dehradun District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has declared a holiday on July 10, 2026, for all schools (Classes 1–12) and Anganwadi centres across the district.

Dehradun, July 9, 2026:
In view of the severe weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Disaster Alert Portal, the Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday on Friday, July 10, 2026, for all schools and Anganwadi centres across the district.
According to the IMD forecast, several parts of Dehradun are likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and intense rain spells. A Red Alert has been issued for the district, indicating the possibility of hazardous weather conditions.
Considering the safety and well-being of students, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has ordered the closure of all government, government-aided, private, and unaided schools from Classes 1 to 12, along with all Anganwadi centres, for one day on July 10, 2026.
The District Magistrate has directed all educational institutions and the concerned departments to ensure strict compliance with the holiday order. The Education Department, school managements, and the Department of Women and Child Development have been instructed to implement the directive without exception.
The district administration has also appealed to residents to remain vigilant during the forecast period. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, streams, waterlogged areas, and landslide-prone locations, and strictly follow weather advisories and instructions issued by the administration.
All emergency response agencies, including the Disaster Management Department, Police, SDRF, and other concerned departments, have been directed to remain on high alert and maintain full preparedness to respond promptly to any weather-related emergency.
The administration has urged the public to rely only on official weather updates and government advisories and to immediately contact the concerned authorities or emergency helplines in case of any emergency.
