One Worker Dies After Shotcrete Lining Collapse Inside Silkyara Tunnel, Investigation Underway

A worker lost his life in an accident inside the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi during the early hours of Thursday.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 2:00 AM, when a block of the tunnel’s concrete (shotcrete) lining collapsed approximately 900 metres inside from the Barkot side of the tunnel.
The collapsed section struck a 21-year-old worker from Jharkhand, causing fatal injuries. Rescue efforts were initiated immediately, but the worker could not be saved.
Following the incident, officials inspected the site and initiated necessary safety and technical assessments.
The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has launched a detailed investigation into the accident and is preparing a comprehensive factual report.
Authorities have stated that the exact cause of the accident and other related facts will be officially confirmed only after the investigation report is completed. The information available at present is preliminary, and no conclusions should be drawn until the inquiry is finalized.
