Dehradun Declares Holiday for Schools and Anganwadi Centres on July 18 Amid Orange Rain Alert

The Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday on July 18, 2026, for all government, government-aided, private schools (Classes 1 to 12), and Anganwadi Centres across the district following an Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the latest Forecast/Nowcast issued by the IMD, Dehradun, along with alerts from the National Disaster Alert Portal of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the district is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and spells of intense to extremely intense rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Considering the possibility of weather-related incidents, District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Dr. Ashish Chauhan, ordered the closure of all educational institutions for students from Class 1 to Class 12 as a precautionary measure.
The District Magistrate has directed the Chief Education Officer and the District Programme Officer (ICDS) to ensure strict compliance with the order across all schools and Anganwadi Centres.
The district administration has also urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, and follow all advisories issued by the administration and the IMD.
