Dehradun Schools, Anganwadi Centres Closed on July 28 Due to Orange Alert for Heavy Rain
Dehradun, July 28, 2026: In view of continuous rainfall and the forecast of heavy to very heavy rain over the next 24 hours, the Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority Dr. Ashish Chauhan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, and the National Disaster Alert Portal (NDAP) have forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and spells of intense to extremely intense rain at isolated places in the district. Based on this forecast, an Orange Alert has been issued for Dehradun.
The district administration stated that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and to minimize the risk of any untoward incidents caused by adverse weather conditions.
The holiday applies to all government, government-aided, private, and non-government schools from Classes 1 to 12, as well as all Anganwadi centres across Dehradun district.
The Chief Education Officer, Dehradun, and the District Programme Officer (Anganwadi) have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order.
The administration has also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas, and follow all advisories issued by the weather department and district authorities.
