CM Dhami Keeps Close Watch on Tamak Nala Disaster, Prioritises Safety, Relief and Connectivity Restoration

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is closely monitoring the situation following the washing away of a Bailey Bridge at Tamak Nala on the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road in Chamoli district. On Tuesday, the Chief Minister spoke with the Chamoli District Magistrate and the Garhwal Divisional Commissioner to take stock of the situation and issued directions regarding relief and rescue operations, uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and early restoration of connectivity.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the supply of ration, food items, medicines and other essential commodities to the affected areas is not disrupted under any circumstances. If supplies cannot be transported through the main route, officials have been instructed to use alternative routes and other available means to ensure that essential items reach residents without delay.
Immediate Action for Restoration of Connectivity
CM Dhami directed officials to work on all possible options for restoring traffic and connectivity on the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road at the earliest.
He instructed the concerned officials to reach the ground zero, personally assess the actual situation and extent of damage, and take prompt decisions so that relief, rehabilitation and connectivity restoration work is not delayed.
Special Vigilance in Low-Lying Areas
In view of changing weather conditions and rising water flow, the Chief Minister has directed authorities to maintain special vigilance in low-lying areas and around rivers, streams and other water channels.
He emphasised that the safety of people remains the government’s highest priority. Authorities have been directed to continuously monitor vulnerable locations and remain fully prepared to shift people to safer places immediately if the situation demands.
SEOC Monitoring Sensitive Areas 24×7
The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) is maintaining 24×7 surveillance of Chamoli and other vulnerable areas across Uttarakhand. Continuous coordination is being maintained with district administrations and concerned departments so that relief and rescue teams can be activated immediately in the event of any emergency.
The administration has also been directed to remain on alert and ensure the availability of necessary resources and personnel according to the evolving situation.
Bailey Bridge Was Washed Away Amid Heavy Water Flow
On Monday, the Bailey Bridge constructed by 123 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), Suraithota, at Tamak Nala on the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road was washed away after a sudden increase in water flow.
Information was also received that one person and a camper vehicle were swept away in the strong current.
Immediately after receiving information about the incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took cognisance of the situation and sought details from the Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation. He directed officials to accord the highest priority to relief and rescue operations.
Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were dispatched to the site. Teams from the local administration, police and other concerned departments are also engaged in relief and rescue operations.
Government Focused on Safety, Relief and Connectivity
Following the Tamak Nala incident, the state government’s response is focused not only on relief and rescue but also on ensuring uninterrupted supplies of essential commodities, alternative connectivity and early restoration of movement in the affected areas.
CM Dhami’s continuous monitoring and his directions for officials to reach the ground, assess the situation and take timely decisions reflect the government’s proactive approach to disaster management.
While natural disasters cannot be prevented entirely, their impact can be reduced through timely preparedness, continuous monitoring, effective coordination and swift administrative action.
The Chief Minister has reiterated that ensuring the safety of every citizen and restoring normalcy in the affected areas at the earliest remain the top priorities of the state government.
