CM Dhami Announces Free Roadways Bus Travel for Women on August 28-29 Ahead of Raksha Bandhan
Dehradun: Women across Uttarakhand are set to receive a special gift from the state government ahead of Raksha Bandhan. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced free travel for women in Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) buses on August 28 and 29, 2026.
As per the government order, women travelling within Uttarakhand on UTC buses on these two days will be entitled to a 100 percent waiver on bus fares. This means eligible women will not have to pay any fare for their journey in state roadways buses during the specified period.
Relief for Women Travelling to Meet Their Families
Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrating the bond of love, affection and emotional connection between brothers and sisters. A large number of women travel to their parental homes and meet their brothers around the festival.
The government’s decision is expected to provide financial relief to women travelling by public transport during the festive period. It will also offer them an accessible and convenient travel option for visiting their families.
The initiative announced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ahead of Raksha Bandhan is aimed at making the festival more convenient and affordable for women across the state.
No Roadways Fare on August 28 and 29
According to the government order, women travelling in Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses on August 28 and 29 will not be required to pay the fare. The transport corporation has been directed to take all necessary measures to implement the decision.
The state government will reimburse the financial burden incurred by the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation as a result of providing free travel to women. The corporation has been instructed to take immediate action as per the prescribed arrangements.
The decision is being seen as a significant welfare measure for women in Uttarakhand ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival.
