Dehradun IT Park Waterlogging to Get Permanent Solution, Technical Survey in September

Permanent Solution to Waterlogging in IT Park Area, Detailed Technical Survey to be Completed in September

Dehradun: The district administration has stepped up efforts to find a permanent solution to the recurring waterlogging problem in the IT Park area along Sahastradhara Motor Road. District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan chaired a high-level meeting at the Rishiparna Auditorium on Saturday and directed concerned departments and technical experts to conduct a comprehensive survey of the area and prepare a scientific and effective drainage plan.

Senior officials from SIDCUL, Public Works Department (PWD), Irrigation Department, and the Research & Planning Division participated in the meeting. Representatives of NIVV Consultancy Services, based in Delhi, also joined the meeting virtually.

The District Magistrate said that waterlogging on roads during the monsoon has emerged as a persistent challenge for Dehradun city. He emphasized that the issue cannot be addressed through temporary water-drainage measures alone. A scientific, systematic and long-term drainage system, designed according to the geographical and natural conditions of the city, is essential for a permanent solution.

Dr. Chauhan directed the experts of the consultancy identified through the Irrigation Department to undertake a detailed technical assessment of the IT Park area and identify the underlying causes of waterlogging. The survey will cover the geographical profile of the area, natural drainage channels, rainfall runoff patterns, waterlogging-prone locations and the existing drainage infrastructure.

The District Magistrate directed that the detailed survey of the IT Park area must be completed in September. Based on the findings, the actual causes of water accumulation will be identified and a concrete action plan will be prepared to ensure effective management of stormwater even during periods of heavy rainfall.

He further directed the concerned departments to technically scrutinize the recommendations and proposed solutions submitted by the consultancy after the survey. A practical and effective drainage plan will subsequently be prepared and submitted to senior authorities at the government level for necessary approvals. Once the required approvals are obtained, the proposed works will be taken forward in a phased and time-bound manner.

Dr. Chauhan said that a permanent solution to waterlogging in the IT Park area would improve traffic movement along Sahastradhara Motor Road and adjoining areas. It would also provide relief to local residents, IT Park employees and the general public who face considerable inconvenience during the monsoon.

The District Magistrate directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination and ensure time-bound action and regular monitoring at every stage, from the technical survey and preparation of the drainage plan to its eventual implementation.

Those present at the meeting included Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) K.K. Mishra, Executive Engineer Bhrigunath Dwivedi, AGM SIDCUL Vinay Shankar, Executive Engineer Irrigation E.R. Purushottam, Assistant Engineer P.S. Rawat, Neha Singh, and officials of NIVV Consultancy Services, Delhi.
