Major District Administration Action to Ensure Food Quality During Festive Season
Surprise inspections at prominent sweet shops, dairy outlets, restaurants and other food establishments; food samples collected for laboratory testing
Dehradun: In view of the upcoming festive season, the Dehradun District Administration has launched an extensive campaign to ensure the quality and safety of food items and prevent adulteration. The initiative aims to ensure that the public has access to safe, hygienic and quality food products, particularly sweets and other festive food items.
In compliance with the directions of the Chief Minister, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has instructed the concerned officials to maintain strict surveillance over the quality of food products during the festive season and take effective action against adulteration and violations of food safety standards.
Following the District Magistrate’s directions, a joint team of the District Administration and Food Safety Department, led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Apoorva Singh, conducted inspections and surprise checks at several prominent food establishments across the city on Monday. The team inspected sweet shops, dairy outlets, canteens, restaurants and other food establishments to assess the quality of food products, hygiene conditions, storage arrangements and compliance with prescribed food safety standards.
During the campaign, inspections were carried out at prominent establishments including Anandam Sweets, 5 Star, Kohli Sweets and Kalra Sweets, along with other major food and dairy establishments. Samples of sweets and other food products were collected during the inspections and are being sent for laboratory testing as per the prescribed procedure.
The District Administration has stated that appropriate action will be taken against establishments found violating food safety standards based on the laboratory test reports. Officials have also been directed to continue the sampling and inspection campaign regularly throughout the festive season and ensure effective action wherever violations are detected.
The District Magistrate has emphasized that strict monitoring is necessary as the demand for sweets and other food products rises during the festive period. The administration has made it clear that adulteration or the sale of substandard food products will not be tolerated.
The District Administration has also appealed to the public to exercise caution while purchasing sweets and other food items during the festive season. Consumers have been advised to pay particular attention to hygiene, quality, packaging and storage conditions and to report any suspected adulteration or irregularity to the concerned authorities.
The District Administration reiterated that there will be no compromise with food quality and public health during the festive season. The campaign against food adulteration will continue, and establishments found violating food safety norms will face action as per applicable rules.
