Road improvement works to begin on a war footing after monsoon; departments directed to complete tendering process on time
State government to provide funds for repair of old PMGSY roads; local bodies to receive resources for urban road improvement
Dehradun: A detailed discussion was held on the condition and improvement of roads across Uttarakhand during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The meeting focused on preparing a comprehensive action plan to improve roads in municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats and rural areas across the state.
Chief Minister Dhami directed the Public Works Department (PWD), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), and other departments and agencies responsible for roads to prepare effective and time-bound plans for road repairs and improvement.
Focus on Repair of Old PMGSY Roads
The Cabinet also discussed the repair of old roads constructed under PMGSY whose maintenance periods have expired and which are not receiving adequate regular maintenance. The state government is considering providing the necessary funds for repairing such roads.
The Chief Minister emphasized that road connectivity is particularly important for rural areas and that roads requiring urgent repairs should not be allowed to deteriorate further due to delays in maintenance and restoration.
Road Works to Begin on War Footing After Monsoon
Chief Minister Dhami directed the concerned departments to complete all necessary preparations in advance so that road repair and improvement works can begin immediately after the monsoon.
He stressed that the tendering process should be completed on time, ensuring that there is no delay in starting construction, repair and restoration works once the rainy season ends.
The Chief Minister also emphasized maintaining both the quality and pace of road improvement works and ensuring close coordination among all concerned departments.
Funds and Resources for Urban Local Bodies
The meeting also discussed providing necessary financial resources to municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats for improving roads in urban areas.
Chief Minister Dhami said urban roads should also be repaired on a priority basis and directed officials to ensure that local bodies have adequate resources to undertake road improvement works effectively.
Chief Minister to Review Roads During Statewide Tour
Chief Minister Dhami said he would undertake road journeys across various parts of Uttarakhand from October to personally assess the condition of roads and review improvement works.
He directed officials to complete the required preparations before his visits and ensure that road improvement projects are implemented within the prescribed timelines.
The Chief Minister said coordinated efforts by all concerned departments and executing agencies would be essential to make roads across both urban and rural Uttarakhand better, safer and more accessible.
The government aims to undertake large-scale road repair and improvement works across the state after the monsoon, with a focus on timely execution, quality construction and improved connectivity for the public.
