Inspection of Fair Price Shops Across All 100 Dehradun Wards; Report Due Within a Week
Food quality, cleanliness and ration distribution under scrutiny; food department officials to assist sector officers
Dehradun, October 14, 2026
The Dehradun district administration has initiated a comprehensive inspection drive covering fair price shops across all 100 wards of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation to improve transparency and efficiency in the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Acting on the directions of District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan, sector officers have been deployed to inspect fair price shops in their respective wards. The relevant Regional Food Officer or Supply Inspector has also been assigned to work alongside each sector officer to ensure effective monitoring.
The District Magistrate has directed all designated officers to thoroughly inspect the fair price shops in their allotted areas, with particular emphasis on cleanliness, the quality of food grains and compliance with prescribed standards for ration distribution.

During the inspections, officers will assess the condition of the shops and examine whether the food grains being distributed meet the required quality standards. The initiative aims to improve the functioning of fair price shops and ensure that beneficiaries receive quality food grains through the Public Distribution System.
Dr Ashish Chauhan has instructed all concerned officers to submit detailed inspection reports within one week. The reports will help the administration assess the existing arrangements and identify areas requiring improvement.
The district administration has reiterated its commitment to making the Public Distribution System more transparent, accountable and effective, while ensuring better services for consumers and maintaining quality standards at fair price shops across Dehradun.
