Union Home Minister Amit Shah to confer the prestigious President’s Police Colour on Uttarakhand Police on November 6
Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday unveiled the new insignia and ceremonial identity of Uttarakhand Police at a programme held in the auditorium of the Chief Minister’s residence. The unveiling included the police flag, emblem, formation sign, insignia, crest and ceremonial uniform.
The Chief Minister also launched Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, based on the theme ‘Integrity for Prosperity’, and administered the National Unity Pledge to those present.
On the occasion, Dhami congratulated Shahjahan Javed Khan and Jagdish Chandra on their promotion from the Uttarakhand Police Service to the Indian Police Service. He also conferred the insignia on the newly promoted officers.
New police insignia represent pride, responsibility and discipline
Congratulating Uttarakhand Police personnel on the unveiling of the new insignia, the Chief Minister said that the initiative was not merely a change in symbols and uniforms. It was an important step towards strengthening the force’s proud traditions, courage, discipline and commitment to duty.
He said the new insignia represented both pride and responsibility. The true value of the new identity would be reflected when citizens experienced sensitivity in police behaviour, efficiency in operations and impartiality in enforcement.
Dhami said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous efforts were being made to realise the vision of smart policing across the country. Equipping Uttarakhand Police with modern technology and making its personnel better trained, efficient and capable remained a priority for the state government.
He added that the force’s new motto, ‘Karm Satyam Shauryam’, conveyed the values of dedication to duty, integrity and courage. Every police officer and personnel must incorporate these ideals into their conduct and working practices.
National Unity Day adds significance to the unveiling
The Chief Minister said the unveiling of the new police insignia on National Unity Day held special significance.
He recalled the historic contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister and the architect of national integration, in strengthening the country’s unity, integrity and internal security.
The occasion, he said, provided an opportunity to renew the commitment to national unity, discipline, duty and service to the nation.
Zero tolerance towards corruption
Launching Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, Dhami said that ensuring honesty, transparency and accountability in governance was as important as the development of the state.
He said the true purpose of development could only be achieved when public resources were utilised properly and citizens received government services without unnecessary difficulties.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government was following a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He emphasised the important role of the Vigilance Department in ensuring corruption-free governance.
He said that, apart from taking action on corruption complaints, it was equally important to address systemic shortcomings that created opportunities for corruption.
Appealing to citizens to raise their voices against corruption, he urged them to register complaints through helpline number 1064.
Regular review of anti-corruption helpline 1064
The Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to ensure regular reviews of anti-corruption helpline 1064, on the lines of the Chief Minister’s Helpline.
He said every complaint registered through the anti-corruption helpline must be taken seriously and acted upon in accordance with the rules.
Dhami also urged all government officials and employees to listen sensitively to every person visiting their offices and ensure the timely disposal of their work.
He said the state must establish a corruption-free system in which every citizen is treated with respect, public services are delivered without negligence and trust between the people and the administration continues to grow.
Uttarakhand Police to receive President’s Police Colour on November 6
The Chief Minister described it as a matter of immense pride for the state that Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah would confer the prestigious President’s Police Colour on Uttarakhand Police on November 6.
Police personnel will participate in the ceremonial parade wearing the newly introduced ceremonial uniform.
Dhami expressed confidence that Uttarakhand Police would establish new standards of public service, discipline, efficiency and dedication to duty with its new identity.
New emblem reflects Uttarakhand’s heritage and identity
The new Uttarakhand Police emblem incorporates the Ashoka Pillar, ‘Satyameva Jayate’, a golden laurel wreath, the Himalayas and a river. These elements represent national pride, truth, justice, excellence and the distinctive geographical identity of Uttarakhand.
The previous three-colour horizontal police flag has been replaced with a new flag featuring a deep blue background, the new police emblem at its centre and red and golden borders.
The formation sign, insignia and crest used on police uniforms have also been redesigned in line with the new emblem.
The ceremonial uniform retains the traditional khaki attire while incorporating a multicoloured ceremonial sash, decorations and distinctive parade accessories.
The Uttarakhand Police flag was previously unveiled on April 4, 2008. The new insignia and symbols have been developed in response to changing challenges and the growing responsibilities of the police force.
According to details provided by the Police Headquarters, the Chief Minister approved the new design on October 21, 2026.
