Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transforming Uttarakhand into the premier film destination in India. Speaking at the premiere of the Garhwali feature film “Meri Pyari Boi” at Silver City Mall in Dehradun on Friday, the CM said the government is taking strategic steps to strengthen the film ecosystem in the state.
Highlighting recent initiatives, CM Dhami announced that the government has introduced grants for films and web series released on major OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sony Liv, Zee, and JioCinema. “Our aim is to support content creators while also promoting tourism and generating direct employment through the film industry,” he said.
He added that under the new Film Policy-2024, the process of shooting in the state has been simplified through a single-window clearance system, making Uttarakhand an increasingly attractive destination for filmmakers. The government is also working with the Tourism Department to scout and promote lesser-known scenic locations for filming.
To encourage more productions, the state is offering a 30% grant on the expenditure incurred in Uttarakhand, with a cap of Rs 3 crore for films in Hindi and other languages listed in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. The same grant is available for big-budget films (over Rs 50 crore) and international productions. For regional language films specific to Uttarakhand, a maximum grant of Rs 2 crore is being offered.
“The state offers unmatched natural beauty—from majestic mountains to serene valleys,” Dhami said, naming locations like Adi Kailash, Chakrata, and Mana as top scenic spots for filmmakers. “We are committed to making Uttarakhand a hub of film production by offering world-class support and infrastructure to the industry.”
So far, over 200 films have been shot in the state, including many in local dialects, showing the government’s inclusive approach to cultural promotion through cinema.
Also present at the premiere were Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, the film’s cast and crew, and a large audience of enthusiastic viewers.
