CMO Launches ‘Anemia-Free India’ Program in Dehradun, Administers Iron Tablets to Students at St. Thomas School
Dehradun: To combat anemia among children, the Anemia-Free India campaign took a major step forward in Dehradun as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma inaugurated the Weekly Iron-Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) program today for private schools across the district.
The launch event was held at St. Thomas School, Dehradun, where Dr. Sharma formally inaugurated the program by administering pink iron tablets to students of classes 1 to 5 and blue iron tablets to those of classes 6 to 12.
Addressing the students, the CMO explained the causes, symptoms, and health impacts of anemia, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet rich in iron and other essential nutrients. He urged children to avoid junk food and adopt healthy eating habits to maintain proper hemoglobin levels and overall health.
Dr. Sharma also highlighted that under this initiative, all private schools in Dehradun district—from grades 1 to 12—will conduct weekly iron-folic acid supplementation, ensuring students receive the necessary nutrition support to prevent anemia.
The program aims to improve children’s health, reduce iron deficiency, and contribute to building a healthier, more energetic young generation under the Anemia-Free India (Anemia Mukt Bharat) mission.
