Action Taken After Viral Video of Students Doing Manual Work in School
Dehradun: The Principal of Government Primary School, Bandh Displaced Banjarawala, Dehradun, has been suspended after a video showing students collecting sand and gravel within the school premises went viral on social media.
The video, which surfaced on October 6, depicts young children in school uniforms carrying sand, gravel, and soil in trays, allegedly for school-related work. The children can be seen handling shovels, spades, and trays to shift the material from one spot to another within the school compound.
Taking prompt cognizance of the incident, the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Dehradun, ordered an immediate inquiry and directed the Deputy Education Officer, Raipur, to investigate the matter. Following the investigation, it was confirmed that the students had indeed been made to engage in manual labour during school hours.
In response, the District Education Officer (Primary Education), Dehradun, suspended the school’s Principal with immediate effect and attached her to the office of the Deputy Education Officer, Raipur. The CEO has also sought explanations from other staff members present at the school at the time of the incident.
Officials stated that if any teacher or staff member is found complicit in the matter, strict disciplinary action will be taken under the Employee Conduct Rules.
Authorities emphasized that such acts not only violate the norms of child welfare but also undermine the sanctity of the educational environment. The Education Department has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that schools remain safe, nurturing spaces focused solely on learning and holistic development.
