Uttarakhand Government Declares Holiday for Women on Karwa Chauth

Late-Night Order Brings Joy to Female Employees

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has announced a special holiday for all women employees on the occasion of Karwa Chauth. The decision, which applies to all government offices, semi-government institutions, and educational establishments across the state, was issued late Thursday night. The announcement brought delight among women employees who had been eagerly waiting for the decision.

Karwa Chauth will be observed on Friday, October 10, and throughout the day, there had been uncertainty among women employees regarding whether an official holiday would be declared. With the state government’s late-night notification, the matter has now been clarified—women across Uttarakhand will enjoy a day off for the festival.

Meanwhile, festive fervor has gripped the markets across the state. In Dehradun and other cities, markets are beautifully decorated with colorful lights, and mehndi artists are drawing intricate designs on women’s hands in every street and corner. Shops selling sweets, cosmetics, and pooja items are witnessing heavy footfall, adding to the festive charm.

Karwa Chauth is a traditional festival observed by married women for the long life, prosperity, and well-being of their husbands. Devotees observe a day-long fast without food or water, breaking it only after sighting the moon and offering prayers in the evening.
