New Modern Bridge to Boost Connectivity on Dehradun–Mussoorie Route

Foundation Laid for New Double-Lane Bridge on Dehradun–Mussoorie Road; ₹12.17 Crore Project to Boost Connectivity

Dehradun.

In a significant step toward improving traffic flow and road safety on the Dehradun–Mussoorie route, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a new permanent double-lane bridge near Shiv Mandir, replacing the damaged old structure. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹12.17 crore, is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and ease vehicular movement.

On the occasion, the minister expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for approving the project. He directed officials of the Public Works Department to ensure that construction is completed within the laid down timeline while maintaining high quality standards.

He emphasized that the Dehradun–Mussoorie road is not only crucial for tourism but also serves as a vital lifeline for daily commuters. The new bridge will further enhance the reliability and efficiency of this key route.

It is noteworthy that the previous bridge at this location was severely damaged during the natural disaster in 2025. To maintain traffic flow, a temporary bailey (valley) bridge was installed, which is currently in use.

According to Executive Engineer Rajesh Kumar, under the state plan, a 60-meter span steel box double-lane bridge will be constructed at kilometer 18 of State Highway-1 (Dehradun–Mussoorie road). The project will incorporate advanced engineering features including pile foundation, RCC abutments, and a steel girder structure.

The bridge will have a 7.5-meter-wide two-lane carriageway, along with 3-meter-wide footpaths on both sides. Safety features such as railings and crash barriers will also be included.

The total project cost has been fixed at ₹12.17 crore, with a target completion date of August 21, 2026.

The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by Municipal Chairperson Meera Saklani, BJP State Minister Neha Joshi, Mandal President Rajeev Gurung, Rajat Agrawal, District Panchayat members Veer Singh Chauhan, Jyoti Kotiya, Sundar Singh Kothal, Vandana Bisht, Hotel Association President Sanjay Agrawal, along with several local residents.
