At Government Doon Medical College Hospital, 60–70% of OPD registrations are now completed through ABHA ID under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, reducing queues and enabling online appointment booking from home.
Dehradun, February 17:
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the digital transformation of healthcare services in Uttarakhand is gaining momentum. The implementation of the ABHA ID-based digital registration system at Government Doon Medical College Hospital has significantly improved the Outpatient Department (OPD) management and reduced patient congestion.
Launched in January under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission with the support of the district administration, the new digital system enables patients to generate their OPD registration slip online through the ABHA app from the comfort of their homes.
Reduced Waiting Time, Better Crowd Control
Doon Hospital witnesses a high daily footfall in its OPD. Since the introduction of the ABHA ID system, nearly 60–70 percent of total OPD registrations over the past month have been completed digitally. This has helped reduce long queues at the registration counters and allowed patients to directly access their respective OPD departments without unnecessary delays.
The system has proven especially beneficial for patients traveling from remote areas, as well as for women and senior citizens. With pre-scheduled appointments, patients are able to receive timely consultations while saving both time and effort.
Digital Medical Records for Seamless Care
One of the key advantages of the ABHA ID system is the digital storage of patients’ complete medical records. Patients no longer need to repeatedly submit personal details during each visit. Diagnostic reports, prescriptions, and treatment histories are securely stored and accessible through the app, ensuring greater efficiency and continuity of care.
At the same time, offline registration services continue to operate to ensure that patients who are not yet enrolled in the ABHA system can still access treatment without inconvenience.
Positive Feedback from Patients and Administration
Patient Sangeeta Badola, who recently availed OPD services, appreciated the convenience of online registration, stating that it helped her avoid long queues and receive treatment at the scheduled time. She expressed gratitude to the state government and district administration for introducing the facility.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Ravindra Singh Bisht described the initiative as a major step toward modernizing healthcare services in the state. He noted that with a large number of OPD patients visiting daily, the online registration system has streamlined hospital operations and ensured faster service delivery.
The digital initiative is not only simplifying the registration process but also laying a strong foundation for an integrated and technology-driven healthcare ecosystem in Uttarakhand.
