Sharada Riverfront to Transform Champawat: CM Dhami Launches ₹300+ Crore Projects in Tanakpur

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami launches ₹300+ crore projects in Champawat, including Sharada Riverfront, roads, helipad and urban infrastructure in Tanakpur.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami laid the foundation stone and performed the ground-breaking ceremony for several major development projects worth over ₹300 crore aimed at ensuring holistic and sustainable development of Champawat district. These initiatives are focused on strengthening urban infrastructure, promoting tourism, enhancing disaster resilience, and improving basic civic amenities in the border region.

Key projects inaugurated by the Chief Minister include the redevelopment of Sharada Ghat (Phase I), implementation of the City Drainage Plan (Phase I), development of an ecological corridor in the Nair–Khera area to enhance disaster resilience, reconstruction of the Tanakpur–Askot CC road, improvement of roads under Champawat–Khetikhan (SH–64), construction of a helipad in the Maa Purnagiri Valley (Chuka area), construction and upgradation of motor roads in Lohaghat and Pati blocks, flood protection works and riverbank erosion control projects, and strengthening of educational infrastructure including examination halls in government colleges, a central library, boundary wall and mini stadium at the Champawat campus of Soban Singh Jeena University, expansion of the Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Hostel in Tanakpur, and construction of a non-residential building for the District Commandant Home Guards office.

The Chief Minister stated that the Sharada Riverfront (Sharada Corridor) project will become the foundation for the comprehensive development of the region and will give Champawat a new identity on the tourism, faith-based travel and modern urban infrastructure map. The project is expected to significantly boost religious tourism, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the local economy.

He emphasized that these development works will reinforce key sectors such as education, road connectivity, tourism, disaster management, urban drainage, and basic infrastructure. This will accelerate economic activities in the border district, generate employment for youth, and provide direct benefits to farmers, students, traders and tourists.

CM Dhami highlighted that Champawat is a land rich in faith, culture and history. Maa Sharada symbolizes knowledge, learning and values, and the development of the sacred riverfront and ghats is a matter of pride for the state. He said that every visit to Tanakpur fills him with positive energy and a renewed sense of responsibility towards the development of the region.

Reiterating the state government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said that balanced development along with preservation of cultural heritage will strengthen Uttarakhand’s identity. Champawat, he added, is steadily moving towards becoming a model, empowered and self-reliant district in the coming years.

He also called upon citizens to actively participate in development initiatives, environmental conservation, and protection of local culture to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth.

On the occasion, Vice Chairman of the Uttarakhand Forest & Environment Advisory Committee Shyam Pandey, District Panchayat President Champawat Anand Singh Adhikari, District Magistrate Manish Kumar, Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganapati, Chairperson of Champawat Municipal Council Prema Pandey, along with other public representatives, officials and a large number of local residents were present.
