Dehradun Administration Launches Joint Raids to Check Rising Sugar Prices
Stock, purchase-sale records and market rates scrutinized; strict action warned against hoarding and black marketing
Dehradun, September 1, 2026: In view of rising sugar prices, the Dehradun district administration has intensified monitoring of the market and launched a joint inspection and raid campaign to ensure adequate availability of sugar and protect consumer interests.
The campaign was initiated on the directions of Dehradun District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan with the objective of preventing hoarding, black marketing, artificial shortages and overcharging, while ensuring that consumers get sugar at fair and reasonable prices.
Inspections Conducted Across Four Areas
Under the leadership of District Supply Officer K.K. Agrawal, joint inspection teams checked more than two dozen wholesale establishments in Dehradun, Vikasnagar, Sahaspur and Rishikesh.
In Rishikesh, the inspection and raid operations were conducted under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kumkum Joshi, while the Vikasnagar operation was led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinod Kumar.
During the inspections, officials thoroughly examined the available sugar stock, stock registers, purchase and sale records, transaction details and prevailing market rates. The teams also verified whether traders were following applicable regulations and selling sugar at appropriate prices without charging consumers unfair rates.
Multi-Department Teams Involved
The joint operation included officials and personnel from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Sugarcane Department and other concerned departments. Assistant Commissioner of the GST Department Deepak Semwal was also part of the inspection teams.
Strict Action Against Hoarding and Black Marketing
District Supply Officer K.K. Agrawal said that the administration would not tolerate activities such as creating an artificial shortage of sugar, hoarding, black marketing or charging consumers unfair prices.
He said that the availability and prices of sugar in the district are being continuously monitored. Wholesale and retail traders have been instructed to maintain proper stock and sales records as required under the rules and ensure the availability of sugar to consumers at fair prices.
Inspection Campaign to Continue
The district administration has made it clear that joint inspections and raids will continue to maintain market stability and safeguard consumer interests.
If any violation of rules, hoarding, black marketing, artificial shortage or overcharging is detected during inspections, legal action will be taken against the concerned traders as per applicable provisions.
The administration has urged all wholesale and retail sellers to comply with the prescribed rules and ensure transparent and fair-priced sale of sugar to consumers.
