Dehradun: Uttarakhand’s renowned Char Dham Yatra has achieved a new historic milestone, with the number of pilgrims visiting the four Himalayan shrines crossing 56,18,497. With this, the 2026 pilgrimage season has surpassed the previous record set in 2023, registering the highest-ever pilgrim footfall in the Char Dham Yatra.

The four sacred shrines—Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri—have witnessed an unprecedented response from devotees from across India and abroad. The record number of pilgrims visiting the shrines reflects the growing faith in Uttarakhand as a major destination for religious and spiritual tourism.

Focus on Safe and Hassle-Free Pilgrimage

The state government made extensive preparations to ensure that the Char Dham Yatra remained safe, smooth and well-organised. Health services, traffic management, drinking water, sanitation, parking, accommodation and other pilgrim facilities were strengthened along the major pilgrimage routes.

Special emphasis was also placed on disaster preparedness and emergency response mechanisms. Effective coordination among the district administration, police, health department, SDRF, local bodies and other concerned departments helped ensure better management of the pilgrimage.

Regular reviews were conducted during the yatra, with necessary improvements made to facilities and arrangements based on the requirements of pilgrims and prevailing conditions.

Uttarakhand’s Spiritual Tourism Identity Gets a Boost

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, infrastructure development and pilgrim facilities at Kedarnath, Badrinath and other major religious destinations in Uttarakhand have received significant impetus. Improved connectivity, infrastructure and visitor amenities have further strengthened the state’s identity as a leading destination for religious and spiritual tourism.

The record pilgrim footfall is being seen as an important indicator of growing confidence among devotees and the positive impact of improved facilities across the Char Dham circuit. The state government is also seeking to ensure that the growth in religious tourism generates greater opportunities for local communities, businesses and employment.

CM Dhami Congratulates All Stakeholders

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed happiness over the new record and said that every pilgrim visiting Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is a guest of the state. He said the government remains committed to ensuring that every devotee gets a safe, smooth and comfortable pilgrimage experience.

The Chief Minister said the record footfall is a reflection of the improved facilities and arrangements being developed in Uttarakhand under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as the growing faith of pilgrims.

He also appreciated the contribution of the district administration, police, health department, SDRF, local bodies, temple priests, local residents and all personnel associated with the pilgrimage arrangements. He said the collective efforts of all stakeholders have played an important role in the successful management of the large-scale pilgrimage.
