DM Inspects Progress of Arhat Bazaar–Tehsil Chowk Road Widening Project, Directs Timely Completion of Compensation Process
Project aligned with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision to ensure smoother, safer and modern traffic management in Dehradun

District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan conducted a field inspection of the Arhat Bazaar–Tehsil Chowk Road Widening Project on Monday and reviewed the progress of the ongoing work. During the inspection, he instructed officials to complete compensation disbursement, document verification, and all statutory procedures within the prescribed timeline while maintaining complete transparency.
The District Magistrate said the project is being implemented on priority in line with the vision of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to develop a modern, safe, and efficient urban transport system in Dehradun. He emphasized that the interests of affected property owners must remain the top priority and that all legal formalities should be completed fairly and transparently.
Officials informed the District Magistrate that compensation is being disbursed to eligible property owners as per the approved procedure. Several beneficiaries have already transferred the ownership of their affected properties to the Public Works Department (PWD) after receiving compensation, enabling faster execution of the road widening work.
A total of 410 properties are affected under the project. Verification of documents and other required formalities for the remaining properties is being expedited. Eligible property owners will receive compensation immediately after successful verification.
Dr. Chauhan directed officials to closely monitor compensation, rehabilitation, and land transfer processes while ensuring that any administrative or technical bottlenecks are resolved without delay.
Once completed, the Arhat Bazaar–Tehsil Chowk Road Widening Project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in one of Dehradun’s busiest corridors. The project will improve traffic flow, facilitate emergency services, and provide safer and more convenient commuting for residents, traders, and visitors.
The administration stated that transparency in compensation and rehabilitation has strengthened public confidence, with several affected property owners voluntarily initiating the process of vacating their premises, thereby accelerating the project’s implementation.
The inspection was attended by Superintendent of Police (City) Pramod Kumar, City Magistrate Rakesh Tiwari, PWD Superintending Engineer Rajesh Kumar, and other senior officials.
