DM Dr Ashish Chauhan directs officials to ensure cleanliness at fair-price shops and the distribution of quality foodgrains; inspection reports due within a week
Dehradun, October 14, 2026
The Dehradun district administration has stepped up monitoring of the Public Distribution System (PDS) to improve transparency, accountability and the quality of foodgrains supplied to beneficiaries. District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan has directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to deploy local officials to monitor fair-price shops in their respective areas.
The DM instructed officials to ensure proper cleanliness at fair-price shops and the distribution of quality foodgrains to consumers. He made it clear that there would be no compromise on the quality of ration supplied through the public distribution network.
SDMs to Personally Inspect Government Grain Warehouses
Dr Ashish Chauhan has also directed all SDMs to personally inspect government grain warehouses and check the quality of foodgrains supplied from these facilities to fair-price shops.
The instructions emphasise that only foodgrains meeting the required quality standards should be dispatched from government warehouses to ration shops. Officials have been asked to pay particular attention to the quality of the stock to ensure that beneficiaries receive safe and good-quality foodgrains.
The initiative aims to strengthen oversight of the supply chain, from government storage facilities to fair-price shops, and improve the effectiveness of the Public Distribution System.
Inspection and Action-Taken Reports Due Within a Week
The District Magistrate has instructed all SDMs to ensure strict compliance with the directions. They must submit reports to the district administration within one week, detailing the inspections conducted and the action taken to ensure compliance.
The district administration’s initiative is aimed at making ration distribution more transparent and accountable while ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive quality foodgrains through the Public Distribution System.
