Heavy Rainfall Alert in Dehradun: All Schools and Anganwadi Centres to Remain Closed on August 18
Dehradun, August 17, 2026: In view of intense rainfall and the latest weather alerts issued for the district, the Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday for all schools from Classes 1 to 12 and all Anganwadi centres on August 18, 2026.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate and Chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority, Dehradun, Dr. Ashish Chauhan, on August 17, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, along with the NDMA’s National Disaster Alert Portal, has forecast the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, lightning and spells of extremely intense rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun district until noon on August 18.
An Orange Alert has been issued in view of the adverse weather conditions. The district administration has warned that the prevailing weather may lead to untoward incidents in different parts of the district.
All Schools from Classes 1 to 12 to Remain Closed
As a precautionary measure and to minimise disaster-related risks, all educational institutions operating from Classes 1 to 12 will remain closed on August 18.
The closure will apply to:
- Government schools
- Government-aided/non-government schools
- Private schools
- Other educational institutions conducting Classes 1 to 12
- All Anganwadi centres in Dehradun district
The District Magistrate has directed the Chief Education Officer, Dehradun, and the District Programme Officer, Dehradun, to ensure strict compliance with the order across all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres.
The district administration has also urged residents and parents to remain cautious during the period of heavy rainfall, avoid unnecessary travel and follow weather and disaster-related advisories issued by the authorities.
