Dehradun Schools Closed on August 31 Amid Orange Alert for Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall
Dehradun, August 30, 2026: In view of the prevailing rainfall conditions and an Orange Alert issued for Dehradun district, the district administration has declared a one-day holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres on August 31, 2026.
The order has been issued by the District Magistrate and Chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority, Dehradun, based on the latest weather forecast/nowcast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and the National Disaster Alert Portal.
Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Forecast
According to the updated forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Dehradun district during the next 24 hours. The forecast also indicates the possibility of lightning and very intense to extremely intense spells of rainfall.
Considering the possibility of adverse weather conditions and potential untoward incidents, the district administration has taken precautionary measures in the interest of disaster mitigation and the safety of students and children.
All Schools from Classes 1 to 12 to Remain Closed
As per the district administration’s order, all educational institutions operating from Class 1 to Class 12 in Dehradun district will remain closed on August 31.
The closure applies to:
- All government schools
- All non-government schools
- All private schools
- All Anganwadi centres across the district
The holiday has been declared for one day only, August 31, 2026.
Officials Directed to Ensure Compliance
The Chief Education Officer, Dehradun, and the District Programme Officer, Dehradun, have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order across all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres in the district.
The precautionary closure comes amid the Orange Alert and the forecast of intense rainfall and lightning in parts of Dehradun over the next 24 hours. Residents are advised to remain alert and follow official weather and district administration advisories.
