42 persons with disabilities examined at Gandhi Shatabdi District Hospital; voters sensitised about accessible voting and the Saksham App
Next camp to be held at the Block Development Officer’s Office in Doiwala on October 22, 2026
Dehradun, October 21, 2026: A special disability camp was organised at Gandhi Shatabdi District Hospital in Dehradun on Wednesday to improve access to healthcare, government services and public welfare schemes for persons with disabilities.
The camp was organised in accordance with the directions of the District Magistrate, with the participation of the Medical Department, Social Welfare Department, Child Development Department, India Post Payments Bank and the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) division of the Election Department.
During the camp, the Medical Department examined 42 persons with disabilities and issued 25 disability certificates. India Post Payments Bank also opened seven new bank accounts to facilitate beneficiaries in receiving financial assistance under various government welfare schemes.
Transport Assistance for Persons with Disabilities
To make the camp accessible to beneficiaries from remote areas, the Social Welfare Department arranged taxi services to transport them to the venue and drop them back after the camp. The arrangement aimed to minimise travel-related difficulties and ensure easier access to essential services.
Awareness Drive on Accessible Voting
The SVEEP division of the Election Department sensitised persons with disabilities about the electoral process, facilities available to voters with disabilities and measures to ensure accessible and convenient voting.
Participants were also informed about the registration process through the Saksham App, which is intended to help eligible voters with disabilities access election-related facilities and participate more effectively in the electoral process.
Multiple Services Available at One Location
The camp brought together healthcare services, disability certification, banking facilities and voter awareness activities at a single location. The initiative aims to make government services more accessible, promote self-reliance among persons with disabilities and facilitate their inclusion in the mainstream of society.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Manoj Sharma, District Social Welfare Officer Deepankar Ghildiyal and officials and staff from the participating departments were present at the camp.
Next Disability Camp on October 22 in Doiwala
The next special disability camp will be organised on October 22, 2026, at the Block Development Officer’s Office premises in Doiwala.
The district administration has appealed to persons with disabilities in the area to attend the camp and avail themselves of the services and facilities being provided.
