Khel Mahakumbh 2025–26: Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Naresh Bansal Inaugurates MP Championship Trophy

Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Naresh Bansal inaugurated the MP Championship Trophy in Dehradun under Khel Mahakumbh 2025–26. Around 350 players from various assembly constituencies are participating in modern and traditional sports competitions.

Under the Khel Mahakumbh 2025–26, the MP Championship Trophy was inaugurated with great enthusiasm on Wednesday at the multipurpose hall of the ground in Dehradun. The competition was formally launched by Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Dr. Naresh Bansal, who unveiled the trophy, hoisted the sports flag, and lit the ceremonial torch.

On the occasion, Dr. Bansal interacted with the players, shook hands with them, and extended his best wishes for success and victory in the championship. Approximately 350 players from various assembly constituencies of the district are participating in this prestigious tournament.

Dr. Naresh Bansal stated that the Khel Mahakumbh competitions in Dehradun began on December 23. Initially, contests were held at the Nyaya Panchayat level, following which winning players advanced to the Assembly-level competitions. Players who performed exceptionally at the assembly level were subsequently selected to compete in the MP Championship Trophy.

He informed that players from Rajpur Road, Raipur, Sahaspur, Dehradun Cantonment, Mussoorie, Doiwala, Dharampur, Vikasnagar, Chakrata, and Rishikesh assembly constituencies are participating in the championship.

Dr. Bansal said that the MP Championship Trophy features a blend of modern and traditional sports disciplines. Competitions are being held in football, badminton, and athletics for boys and girls in the Under-14 and Under-19 categories.

In addition, traditional sports such as kabaddi, volleyball, pittū (seven stones), kho-kho, tug of war, marbles (goli-kancha), and murga jhapat are being organized for Under-14 boys and girls. The same set of traditional sports is also included for the Under-19 boys and girls categories. Dr. Bansal announced that winning teams will be awarded cash prizes.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to sports, Dr. Bansal said that policy initiatives taken by the BJP-led government have significantly transformed the sports ecosystem at both the national and state levels, fostering a strong and positive sports culture. He added that players emerging as state-level winners through this championship will be eligible for four percent reservation in government jobs.

Addressing the youth, Dr. Bansal urged them to view sports not merely as a pastime but as a serious career option. He emphasized that with complete discipline, dedication, and commitment, no force can stop a player from becoming a champion.

The event was attended by District Youth Welfare Officer Pramod Pandey, District Sports Officer Ravindra Bhandari, along with other concerned officials, coaches, and a large number of players.
