Republic Day 2026: Governor Unfurls National Flag at Dehradun Parade Ground, CRPF Tops Parade

Grand Republic Day 2026 celebrations were held at Dehradun Parade Ground where Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) unfurled the National Flag, took salute at the parade and honoured police officers, officials, tableaux and parade contingents for excellence.

On the occasion of the Republic Day, the state-level main समारोह was held with great pomp and dignity at the Parade Ground, Dehradun. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade.

During the event, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honoured police personnel and various officers for their outstanding and meritorious services by conferring medals and commendations.

Information Department Tableaux Secures First Prize

Several departments showcased visually captivating tableaux highlighting state policies, achievements and welfare schemes. These included the Information Department, Women Empowerment & Child Development Department, Rural Development Department, Tourism Department, Horticulture Department, School Education Department, Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA), Forest Department, Industries Department and Sanskrit Education Department.

Based on evaluation, the Information Department tableau on “Uttarakhand Silver Jubilee and Winter Religious Tourism” won first prize, followed by the Sanskrit Education Department (second place) and School Education Department (third place). The winning departments were felicitated by the Governor and the Chief Minister.

CRPF Tops Parade Competition

The ceremonial parade featured contingents from the 14th Dogra Regiment of the Indian Army, CRPF, ITBP, Himachal Police, 40th Battalion PAC, 40th Battalion PAC Women’s Contingent, Uttarakhand Home Guards, Provincial Armed Constabulary, NCC Boys and Girls, Mounted Police, Police Communication Unit, Fire Services and CPU.

In the parade competition, CRPF secured first position, ITBP second, and 14th Dogra Regiment third. The top-performing contingents were awarded trophies by the Governor and the Chief Minister.

Cultural Performances Highlight Uttarakhand’s Heritage

Folk artists from across the state presented vibrant cultural performances showcasing Uttarakhand’s rich traditions. Chholiya dance, Garhwali folk dance, pipe band performances and other cultural displays enthralled the audience and received wide appreciation.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also honoured democracy fighters, families of martyred statehood movement activists and statehood activists by draping shawls over them as a mark of respect.

The ceremony was attended by former Governor of Maharashtra and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Bhagat Singh Koshyari, former Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Chief Minister’s spouse Geeta Dhami, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, MPs Naresh Bansal and Mahendra Bhatt, MLA Khajan Das, Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Director General of Police Deepam Seth, senior administrative and police officers, public representatives and a large number of citizens.

National Flag Hoisted at Lok Bhawan

On the occasion, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) also unfurled the National Flag at Lok Bhawan and extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on Republic Day.

While interacting with the media, the Governor paid tribute to Dr B.R. Ambedkar and all the architects of the Indian Constitution, as well as freedom fighters, martyrs and the brave soldiers guarding the nation’s borders and coastlines.

He said that Republic Day provides an opportunity to reaffirm commitment towards strengthening the Constitution and democratic values. Emphasising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” and “Vishwaguru Bharat,” he called upon citizens to actively contribute to nation building.

The Governor stressed the positive use of artificial intelligence and modern technology to meet 21st-century challenges. He also lauded the role of Uttarakhand’s women power and youth for their initiatives in innovation, startups and entrepreneurship.
