Traffic Ease, Public Safety & Cultural Showcase Together
Dehradun — Inspired by the Chief Minister and driven by the initiative of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Dehradun’s major junctions are undergoing a remarkable transformation. These intersections are no longer just traffic points but grand and safe showcases blending the state’s traditional culture with modern infrastructure.
In just three months, the widening, additional slip road construction, and hill-style beautification work at Kuṭhal Gate, Sai Mandir, and Dilaram Chowk has been nearly completed. The beautification of the historic Clock Tower is also in its final stage.
Merging Traffic Management with Aesthetic Appeal
DM Bansal prepared the design, survey, and concept within his second month of joining. True to his working style, the plans include not only construction but also maintenance provisions for the next three years. At Kuṭhal Gate and Sai Mandir junctions, two additional 10-meter-wide motorable slip roads have been built to ease traffic flow.
The junctions are being designed in the traditional hill style with glimpses of Garhwal and Kumaon culture. Statues and artworks of the state’s eminent personalities and movement leaders are being installed so that both tourists and locals can connect with Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage.
Smart City Budget Driving Beautification
A provision of ₹10 crore from the Smart City budget has been allocated for these projects. Along with preserving folk traditions and cultural heritage, the plan includes showcasing artworks of religious sites and memories of statehood movement leaders at major junctions and roads.
Focus on Safety as Well
For the first time in five years, new traffic lights have been installed at 11 major junctions in the city. Additionally, police CCTV cameras at key intersections have been integrated to enable real-time traffic monitoring and ensure safer roads.
During the inspection, Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh, Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah and officials from Smart City Ltd. were present.
